PGIMER Nursing Officer Eligibility Criteria 2026

Educational Qualification

Candidates must meet one of the two qualification routes below.

Option A — Degree route: B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing, or B.Sc Nursing (Regular), or Post Basic B.Sc Nursing from a recognised university/institute, along with registration as a Nurse and Midwife with a State Nursing Council or Indian Nursing Council.

Option B — Diploma route: Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from a recognised board/council, registration as a Nurse and Midwife with a State Nursing Council, plus one year of experience as a Staff Nurse in a hospital with a minimum of 50 beds, gained after completing the GNM diploma.

Nursing Registration Requirement

Valid, current registration as a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife (RN RM) with a State Nursing Council or the Indian Nursing Council is mandatory for both routes. Keep your registration renewed and ready before you apply — an expired registration certificate is one of the most common reasons applications get rejected at the document-verification stage.

GNM Eligibility

GNM diploma holders are eligible only if they hold one full year of post-diploma clinical experience in a hospital with at least 50 beds. The experience certificate should be issued by the employing hospital, carry a clear reference number, and mention the exact from–to period of service. Experience gained before completing the GNM diploma does not count.

B.Sc Nursing Eligibility

Candidates with a regular B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing, B.Sc Nursing, or Post Basic B.Sc Nursing degree can apply directly — no prior work experience is required under this route, provided the nursing registration is valid.

Age Limit

The age limit is 18 to 35 years, calculated as on the closing date, 3 October 2026. Date of birth will be accepted only as recorded in the Matriculation/10th certificate.

Age Relaxation

Age relaxation is provided as per Government of India norms for reserved categories. Based on PGIMER’s usual practice for Group ‘B’ recruitment:

Category Relaxation
OBC 3 years
SC/ST 5 years
PwBD 10 years (additional, cumulative with category relaxation where applicable)

Confirm the exact figures in the official notification PDF, since relaxation slabs can be revised for a specific recruitment cycle.

PGIMER Nursing Officer Selection Process 2026

Selection is based entirely on merit in the Computer Based Test — there is no interview for Group ‘B’ non-gazetted posts, in line with the Government of India’s policy of dispensing with interviews at this level.

1. Computer Based Test (CBT) — objective-type test conducted in English only.

2. Document Verification — shortlisted candidates must produce original certificates matching their application.

3. Medical Fitness Examination — conducted by PGIMER’s Medical Board before final appointment.

Tie-breaking rule: if two or more candidates score the same aggregate marks, PGIMER resolves the tie in this order — fewer negative marks first, then earlier date of birth, then higher percentage in 10+2, then higher percentage in Matriculation.

PGIMER Nursing Officer Exam Pattern 2026

Parameter Details
Mode Computer Based Test (CBT)
Medium English only
Total Questions 100
Total Marks 100
Duration 100 minutes
Marking Scheme +1 for each correct answer
Negative Marking -0.25 for each wrong answer
Question Type Objective / Multiple Choice

Unattempted questions carry no penalty, so it’s safer to leave a question blank than to guess randomly, given the 0.25 negative marking.

Minimum qualifying marks (as per the notified pattern): around 40% for General/EWS and 35% for SC/ST/OBC. Note that clearing the qualifying cut-off does not guarantee selection — since there’s no interview, your final rank depends purely on your total CBT score, so aim to score well above the minimum.

PGIMER Nursing Officer Syllabus 2026

PGIMER does not publish a separate syllabus booklet, but the CBT is designed around core nursing subjects and general awareness. Based on the qualification prescribed and PGIMER’s past recruitment pattern, expect questions from:

  • Fundamentals of Nursing
  • Medical-Surgical Nursing
  • Child Health (Pediatric) Nursing
  • Obstetrics & Gynecological (OBG) Nursing / Midwifery
  • Community Health Nursing
  • Mental Health (Psychiatric) Nursing
  • Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology
  • Nursing Research, Statistics & Education
  • Nursing Administration & Management
  • Sociology & Psychology
  • General Knowledge & Current Affairs

PGIMER Nursing Officer Salary 2026

Selected candidates are placed at Level-7 of the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix, with a starting basic pay of approximately ₹44,900, rising up to ₹1,42,400 across the pay band. Along with basic pay, employees receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), and other benefits admissible to central government employees, including pension and medical benefits — making this one of the more financially secure nursing career paths available through a government exam.

PGIMER Nursing Officer Exam Preparation Strategy

Because there is no interview and selection is purely CBT-based, your preparation strategy should focus on accuracy and speed rather than just topic coverage.

  • Build strong fundamentals in Medical-Surgical, Pediatric, OBG, Community Health, and Psychiatric Nursing — these carry the bulk of the weightage.
  • Revise Anatomy & Physiology and Microbiology alongside clinical subjects, since PGIMER often links questions across topics.
  • Practice previous years’ PGIMER Nursing Officer and Staff Nurse papers to understand the difficulty level and recurring question patterns.
  • Attempt full-length mock tests under the 100-minute time limit to build speed without triggering the negative marking penalty.
  • Dedicate regular time to General Knowledge and Current Affairs — a scoring section many candidates under-prepare for.
  • Track your accuracy percentage in mocks; with 0.25 negative marking, guesswork below roughly 25% accuracy on a question actively hurts your score.

How to Prepare for PGIMER Nursing Officer Exam 2026

A structured 6–8 week plan works well for most working nurses and fresh graduates alike:

1. Weeks 1–2: Cover the syllabus subject-wise, starting with your weakest nursing subject.

2. Weeks 3–4: Move to topic-wise practice questions and start solving previous years’ papers.

3. Weeks 5–6: Begin full-length timed mock tests, at least 2–3 per week.

4. Final weeks: Focus on revision, error analysis from mocks, and General Knowledge updates.

Consistent mock testing under exam-like conditions is what separates candidates who clear the qualifying cut-off from those who make the final merit list.
